Cathy is a freelance writer, editor and public relations consultant who combines her working experience as a business reporter and public relations professional to accomplish the communications goals of her clients.
Since its inception, Cathy Landry Communications has worked on a nationwide media relations campaign for a federal government agency, in public relations for private industry to fill in for an employee on leave, website content development for a trade association and ongoing freelance writing.
Cathy studied newspaper journalism at Syracuse University before moving to Washington, D.C. There, she worked for McGraw-Hill as an energy reporter, covering both markets and regulation. She transferred to London for three years, where, working for a McGraw-Hill subsidiary, Platts News Service, she launched a European energy publication as a managing editor.
Upon returning to Washington, Cathy served as a senior correspondent, covering Congress and regulatory agencies on energy issues. During this period, Cathy also earned her master's degree in government from Johns Hopkins University.
Cathy then changed course and worked for several Washington-based trade associations, specializing in media relations, strategic communications, crisis communications, social media strategy and management, executive and employee communications, blogs, advocacy programs and website content development.
She has held several public relations positions, including vice president, senior director of strategic communications, director of communications and media relations specialist. Cathy has also served as a communications professional for a foundation that produced technical reports.
She currently lives in Washington, D.C.
